Pianist in a Bordello

What would happen if a politician decided to tell the truth—the whole truth?
Richard Youngblood, aspiring Congressman, is about to find out. He’s running on a platform of honesty and transparency—and against the advice of his friends and advisers he’s decided to start with himself. His autobiography will lay his entire life bare before voters just days before the election.
And what a life he’s had. Born in a commune and named Richard Milhous Nixon Youngblood as an angry shot at his absent father, Richard grows up in the spotlight, the son of an enigmatic fugitive and the grandson of a Republican senator. He’s kidnapped and rescued, kicked out of college for a prank involving turkeys, arrested in Hawaii while trying to deliver secrets to the CIA…Dick Nixon Youngblood’s ready to tell all.
He’ll even tell his readers about the Amandas—three women who share a name but not much else, and who each have helped shape and define the man he’s become.
Are voters really ready for the whole truth?
Are you?
Pianist in a Bordello is a hilarious political romp through the last four decades of American history, from a narrator who is full of surprises.

Sometime during the eighties I wrote (long hand on legal pad) what became most of Chapter One of PIANIST IN A BORDELLO. Just a few hears ago I rediscovered this masterpiece when searching old files and I liked it even better than when I first wrote it. It is a fictional autobiography of Richard Milous Nixon Youngblood, who was born in a hippy commune on election day, 1968 and his mother in an act of vengeance against the her absent husband, named him after the newly elected President.

This delightful book took me back to my youth when I was active in politics, becoming a feminist, being a teacher and learning about our government. It reminded me of "Another Roadside Attraction", also a favorite book of mine. Mr. Erickson has a good satirical use of our language and excellent background as a teacher. I highly recommend this book.

Reading this book is like taking a little vacation, only you’re going to times and trends in recent history instead of places, laughing along the way. I especially liked the quotations that begin each chapter. It’s encouraging to hear R. N. Youngblood (Trueman?) the politician who keeps his integrity when he speaks, even under pressure. Satire, of course, but, also, a fantasy that’s fun to read.

"Pianist in a Bordello" is like Forrest Gump.
If Forrest Gump was:
Smarter.
Consumed with politics.
Surrounded by extremists.
Written by someone obsessed with Richard Nixon.

I had a blast reading this fun romp about a young man and his adventures through a political lens. It is an easy read, full of wacky characters and hijinks. After I got into it, I could not put it down.

Whether you are Conservative, Liberal or none of the above you will enjoy "Pianist in a Bordello"!

Just finished this book. What a fun read! Loved all the characters, but especially Sacatchy since he reminds me of one of my college friends. And it reminded me of all the zany things we did back in the day.

This is a laugh-out-loud funny mix of real life and fiction. Mike Erickson has managed to capture everything goofy and irreverent life can offer. His optimism of political life is refreshing, and I sincerely hope a sequel will be forthcoming. This story absolutely lends itself to the further life and times of "an honest politician".

Charming, witty, wildly imaginative, well-written & colorful : Pianist in a Bordello is the "tell all" tale told by a teacher-turned -politician who figures he may as well publish his life story before the media runs with it. A must read by anyone who is looking for a light-hearted yet provocative story, skillfully told, with an engaging collection of characters.

Delivers what it promises. Reads like a story from a favorite professor - after a few glasses of wine. I am now only disappointed that there don't appear to be more from Erickson on the horizon - maybe deserved success will serve as an appropriate catalyst. If you're on the fence on ordering this one - click the button.

Fast-paced, witty, refreshing; outlandish yet surprisingly believable...reminiscent of Carl Hiaasen's novels in the 90s. A seriously fun read, especially for those familiar with California politics and culture.
