For Parker and Dillon Callaghan, this last trip leading a large wagon train across the United States is going to be very profitable. They will finally have enough money to fund their dream trip to the North Country and seek the ever-elusive gold strike that they have long been dreaming of.
The sons of Bill Callaghan, a prominent Texas rancher, they are seeking their own independence. It is the summer of 1868 and much of the country is still a dangerous and deadly place in which to travel.
Their journey begins in Independence, Missouri. As they travel across the country, their strengths and weaknesses will be tested. Parker, a man of deep emotion and pride in what he does, takes the lives of everyone on the train personally.
They endure many hardships, as well as setbacks from dangerous weather, animals, Indians and other people, to the threat of yellow fever, as they travel across the United States.
