Poems You Have Never Met
I took upon myself the liberty of introducing you to a few new friends from the Russian poetic family. Below is a modest selection of poems from my book shelf and my memory. These works either have not been translated into English or are not widely available in the United States.
Translating poetry is a challenging task even for someone who is fully bilingual. Not only is it important to communicate what the author was trying to say (and do so more or less accurately), it is also vital to preserve the style and rhythm of each work. I hope I was able to get the poems in this book over the language barrier successfully enough for you to enjoy them and to appreciate the artistry of their original creators.
The poems are not arranged in any particular order. My main goal was to capture a variety of styles and moods, thus providing my readers with a “teaser” to spark their interest and encourage them to explore more of Russian literature and poetry on their own.
